Detroit Mayor Latest
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A judge says embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick can go to the Democratic National Convention, but the presumptive presidential nominee doesn't want him there.
A spokesman for presidential candidate Barack Obama says that Kilpatrick would be a distraction if he goes as a superdelegate.
Brent Colburn says in an e-mail that the focus of the convention "should be on Barack Obama'' and not on "the troubles of one individual.''
Kilpatrick is charged with eight felonies in a perjury case and two felonies in an assault case.
A Wayne County judge told Kilpatrick Thursday that he could attend the convention later this month. Defense lawyer James Thomas said high-ranking Democrats want Kilpatrick to attend the convention.
